Carve and Cast a silver ring with stones, April 7

Carve and Cast a silver ring with stones, April 7

$250.00

Sunday, April 7th, 10-6PM.

In this one-day, 8-hour making event of the year, you will be making your own sterling silver ring with stones in it from the wax model you carve to the finished silver ring you walk away wearing. You will carve your own ring out of wax, choose stones to use for the cast-in-place options, make the mold in the sand casting receptacle, melt silver, pour the silver into the mold, saw, sand, file, clean, polish, and fall in love with your new ring all in the span of 8 hours!

You will be instructed and lead through each step but your design will be your own. We will use sterling silver and various hard gemstones that can withstand the high heat of molten metal. Everything will be provided but if you have your own hard stones: diamonds, rubies, sapphires, garnets, that you would like to use, please bring them for your ring.

We will be using the cast in place method for the stones which means we first place the stones where we want them and then we pour the molten metal into the mold which will fill around the stones, securing them in place as the metal cools and hardens. Please note - there is a lot of cleanup with sand casting if you want to remove the sand grain and stones can and will often move a bit so depending on the size of the stone, there will be fluctuations in outcomes. We will try our hardest to make your ring just as you envision it though!

No previous experience is necessary and all materials are included unless you want to bring your own hard gemstones to set.

Class minimum is 3, and maximum is 4.

This class is open to adults.
