So you want to be a metalsmith.

In this 5-week course, we will begin with learning about working with metal, various texturing, cutting tools, and forming techniques such as dapping, disc cutters, hammering, stamping, work hardening , gauges, planning and design methods. We will also learn all the fundamentals of soldering and sawing Sterling Silver and base metals (brass and copper). This includes basic setup, must-dos and don'ts, metal prep and the correct steps for soldering success. As well as, the fundamentals and good use practices of the jewelers saw. We will work with the jewelers saw to create depth and imagery to metal pieces that will be soldered. We will use a variety of torches, soldering surfaces, types of solder, saw blades, and metal combinations. We will learn various soldering techniques and when to use them and create many finished pieces such as pendants, rings, and earrings. We will plan our pieces, build on them, and use finishing techniques such as filing, sanding, flexshaft attachments, polishing, and create our own findings such as jump rings and ear wires. When you complete this course you will gain an understanding of metalsmithing techniques, how to achieve the design you would like, and the beginner knowledge to better understand where you will go from here and what you want to make next!

This class is like Soldering & Sawing 101, the Metal Smithery 101, and Findings in one class.
