Soldering & Sawing 101

In this 3-week course, we will learn all the fundamentals of soldering and sawing Sterling Silver and base metals (brass and copper). The first session includes an extra hour to cover topics from The Metal Smithery 101. We will then begin with basic setup, must-dos and don'ts, metal prep and the correct steps for soldering success. As well as, the fundamentals and good use practices of the jewelers saw. We will work with the jewelers saw to create depth and imagery to metal pieces that will be soldered. We will use a variety of torches, soldering surfaces, types of solder, saw blades, and metal combinations. Each person will complete at least one, multi-layered finished piece. This course is a prerequisite for most of the other advanced courses and one-day workshops, as well as for membership (unless otherwise approved by TMS). All materials are included in the class fee.
